Solve for Unpredictable Forecasts Using Factory Automation Building Blocks

Despite best efforts to plan the manufacturing capacity needs upfront, the reality is that build forecasts remain a moving target over the course of a product’s life. While manufacturers typically initially estimate two-year outlooks and quarterly forecasts, the actual orders often deviate from these forecasts. Manufacturers are then faced with the challenge of "right sizing" the workforce, the factory floor area, and the equipment on very short notice. This becomes an extremely stressful, reactive, firefighting puzzle which needs to be solved for in real time. The more time it takes to solve for meeting forecasting deviations, the more money the factory loses. What’s needed is a flexible approach which allows for adjusting manufacturing capacity to meet changing customer orders while still maintaining good quality, efficiency, and profitability.
