SANS 2018 Industrial IoT Security Survey

Everyone who is responsible for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) security is working in uncharted territory as there are currently no models or standards that provide adequate guidance for segmenting and safeguarding contemporary systems. And there’s nothing out there that accounts for the borderless, IT/OT-converged automation and control system architectures that result from the IIoT.
However, effective solutions for reducing security risks are emerging. It is possible today to bring about a secure and trustworthy integrated data network—one where endpoints can be trusted and protected.

The 2018 SANS Industrial IoT Security Survey is a study of practices and perceptions that may be facilitating or impeding the security of IIoT solutions. Based on the responses of more than 200 participants from a cross section of industries, the survey offers recommendations and best practices for:

  • Managing endpoints through the network
  • Developing network design practices for segmentation and separation, as well as monitoring and access controls
  • Achieving IIoT cyber hygiene
  • Investing in the network and personnel for effectively managing risk throughout all phases of the IIoT system lifecycle (design, build, operate, maintain)

We think you will find the survey’s conclusions to be insightful and helpful as you work to improve your organization’s IIoT security. Complete this form to download this timely report.
