CISO Research Study: Enterprises Underestimate the Threat of Cyber Attacks

ESI ThoughtLab Report Shares Cyber Security Concerns, Practices and Metrics

Research shows that companies vastly underestimate their exposure to cyber attacks and overestimate the protection offered by their cyber security system.

On average, companies estimate they have a 45% probability of a moderate or major breach, but the data shows that the real probability is much higher, at 73%. The average cost of cyber attacks per firm was $4.1 million, making this underestimation dangerous and costly.

Newly released ESI ThoughtLab research shows what 1,000 CISOs and senior security executives think about benchmarks for cyber security practices, investments, and performance metrics. The ESI ThoughtLab analysis highlights how firms can cut costs and drastically reduce their exposure to breaches.
