Why employee access to primary care matters

When it comes to health, everyone could use an ally. A go-to resource employees can
turn to for issues, big or small. Trusted experts to help them navigate the complex world
of health care. Ideally, these primary care providers (PCPs) are only looking out for
their patients’ best interests — not trying to push procedures, treatments, and referrals
to generate income for a big health system. And in a perfect world, they’re also available
24/7 when illness hits or that worried feeling arises.

Unfortunately, with the current state of health care in the U.S., it’s increasingly difficult
to find these trusted advisors and get appointments with them in a timely fashion.
In fact, it takes people an average of 29 days to get in to see a PCP in the U.S. up from
19.5 days in 2014. Is it any wonder so many people turn to emergency rooms, urgent care,
and expensive specialists for basic care?
