With UK economy growth slowing, it’s no secret that the hospitality industry has been amongst the hardest hit. The sector has had to operate under changing COVID restrictions, volatile consumer confidence, an unpredictable supply chain and hugely challenging staffing issues.

In the UK alone, a third of job losses across all sectors have come from hospitality according to the Office of National Statistics. From a global perspective, the pandemic is expected to push 88M into extreme poverty (living off less than $1.90 a day) in 2020, with that increasing to 115M in 2021. With these tectonic shifts in economic health, we look at how the recession will impact operators, staff and consumers and what the industry might look like as it starts to make its recovery in 2021.
