At Atos, an analysis of our traditional banking and insurance clients shows that these large organizations have two common factors that prevent them from competing in the way today’s market dictates. First, a slow and complex IT infrastructure that has been built up over the course of decades. Second, a disorganized mix of monolithic legacy applications that run core services.
For many of these companies, outsourcing is the first step in eliminating the reliance on outdated systems and reducing internal costs. Some may have considered cloud infrastructure but have not progressed with the public cloud because of high, constantly tightening regulatory requirements and uncertainty. Those that are reliant solely on private cloud have found that even this infrastructure cannot mask the fact that monolithic software applications are hard to scale – regardless of the platform they run on.
