Human Connections in Crisis: Empathy in Action for Better Relationships

The precautions we’ve taken to minimize the spread of COVID-19 have been necessary, but they’ve also come at a cost: a sense of isolation. Even though people are interacting on digital channels at higher rates than ever before, overwhelmingly, people feel disconnected from one another. However, 1 in 5 people have managed to feel more connected during the pandemic. These people are experiencing higher happiness and fitness levels and better mental health by having more empathy and patience for others. They’ve realized that connection is the key to offsetting some of the negative effects of the pandemic.

In this study, we examine how people’s feelings of connection have changed over the course of the pandemic, what we can learn from the “Connected” versus the “Connected Deficient”, and the role empathy can play to help companies establish human connection with their customers.
